Instant Gratification: The Best Instant Film To Buy

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably been meaning to get into instant film photography, but never really got around to it. Why? Well, if it’s because you thought instant photography was a dying art form and the only cameras available were expensive and hard to use, then read on! Instant film isn’t dead yet, nor are Polaroid cameras terribly complicated or expensive to buy. Read on to find out which instant film should be your first!

1. Color i-Type Film

The i-type film is the same instant film used in all of the new Polaroid cameras being produced by Polaroid Originals and Lomography. If you’re looking to try instant photography out, it’s pretty safe to say you should start here.

If you want to keep the cost of your film low, this is the easiest way to go. While i-type B&W film is still available, I’d say it’s also starting to show its age. Still, if you want a taste of instant photography without paying a premium for the brand name, it’s worth picking up some i-type B&W and shooting away.

What’s the fun in shooting instant film if you don’t mix it up a little bit? Well, maybe not so much fun, but still worth doing from time to time. The metallic spectrum edition is essentially the same as the standard i-type except that a little bit of metallic element has been added to give it a unique look. Recommended for people who like change!

The highlight of the 600 series is that it utilizes a round frame. While this may seem like a small detail, it’s what makes this particular film stand out from the rest. The Polaroid 600 series is also associated with the original Polaroid camera, the SX-70. But its image quality still holds up today and it’s still a great film to use if you want that classic Polaroid look.

If you like the larger format that the 600 series offers, but want more color, then this is your film. SX-70 film is only available in color, and there are no special versions of it. (So far.) With that said, there’s a reason this film has stayed around for so long. It’s a staple of instant photography and a must-have in any serious shooter’s collection.

If you’re going to get into instant photography, then you’ll likely end up collecting a lot of old film cameras. If that’s the case, this is a great way to replenish your supply of film and not break the bank. These packs contain not just one but three rolls of SX-70 core film which can be used in any SX-70 camera!

The Polaroids are great for people who want an instant camera that won’t break the bank. You can still get your hands on the classic SX-70 as well, but if you don’t mind buying a new camera every time, then go with the 600 or SX-70 films.
